Inspired: Julie and Julia movie Servantless Cooking

Let's face it, the majority of us do our own cooking or bring home prepared foods. But, in this tough economy we need to save money on everything now. So, I have always wanted to cook page by page through some of my favorite recipe books. At, first my daughter and I decided it would be the Betty Crocker cookie cookbook. We did start it in 2003 with our home school group. We got through the first 10 recipes and quit.

After, watching the movie Julie & Julia I've been inspired to start and finish one of my fav cookbooks called "Amish Cooking". So officially starting January 4, 2010.

I'm sending my husband to the store to buy a weeks worth of ingredients. I'll post the recipes here so if any of you readers want to follow along. I'll have one dessert a week. I'll also report on how we liked the recipe and you can do the same.

This will be a lot of fun and will save us time and money with these simple and few ingredient recipes. Happy Cooking!!
I will do my best to put a recipe here daily, but if I miss a day or two it will be because of my health issues.
Here goes, the first recipe will be: Herbed Chicken & Veges. I'll post the next recipe on January 4th.
Pass the word to all your cook- loving, money-saving friends!!!

2 medium potatoes, thinly sliced
2 med. carrots
4 chicken pieces
1 envelope soup mix savory herb with garlic
1/3 cup water
1 tablespoon extra virgin olive oil

Preheat oven to 425 In medium baking dish place in potato, carrots and chicken. Pour mixed soup mix with the water and oil over chicken and veges.
Bake for 40 minutes or until chicken is thoroughly cooked.
Makes 4 servings
