Day 46: Keep Your Word

Day 46: Keep Your Word- Think about how you feel when someone tells you they're going to do something and then they don't keep their word.  Doesn't that cause you stress?  Well, the same is true with ourself if we don't keep our word it will cause stress on someone else and then in turn come back to us when they get upset and say you said you'd do this...

The Bible gives us the wise counsel to keep our word in the first place even if it causes you discomfort in some way.  It plainly states: "Let your word Yes! mean Yes, and your No!, no.
Keeping your word tells a lot about your truthfullness.  There is another scripture that says: " He that is faithful in little things will be faithful in much and he that is unrighteous in little things will be unrighteous in much".

So in other words, you are known for the kind of  person you truly are by God and your fellow man by the way you live your day to day life.  There can sometime be good reasons why we have to change what we said we'd do.  But, instead of just never following through why not plan what you promised at another time.

Day 45: Do Volunteer Work- As a Christian my family and I are very focused on helping our neighbors.  We volunteer hours of our time every week to bring people a hope for a better life to come that is promised in the Bible.

Even though most people don't see the value of that help, it brings us much joy because we know we are doing what Jesus commanded his disciples to do before he left the earth.  He even set the example for us by teaching his disciples how to go into villages and from house to house bringing people the message about God's kingdom.

We also help out our neighbors with other things when there is a need.  My husband is very handy so lots of the neighbors get his help on car repairs or home improvements.

Day 45: Do Volunteer Work

Day 45: Do Volunteer Work- You don't have to look very far to find someone in need. First, look around your neighborhood.  Drive or walk around the block and see who needs some yard work done or where there are a lot of kids.  Offer to pull weeds, wash the windows on the house. Whatever, needs done be willing to get to know your neighbors and lend a helping hand.

If they have kids get them involved in the work too.  Teach them how to help others and talk to them about how rewarding it is to help those your are close to.  After, you've helped the neighbors now look in your own family.  Is there an Aunt, Cousin, Mom or Dad that could use help around the house?

Maybe they don't have lots of money and bringing them a bag of groceries would show how much you care.  It's this kind of help that Jesus taught us to do.  Not to just have a personal interest in our own lives but in the lives of those near to us as well.

Day 44: Find A Role Model- In my family the Bible is the book we read most often.  We also have many other Bible based publications that teach us how to draw close to God and how to follow the example set by his son Jesus Christ.  We have one night set aside every week to do Bible reading and discuss what we've learned and how it can help us in our life today.

Then, at our weekly congregation meetings we get more spiritual guidance and direction from the Bible.  There is no greater gift than what God did for us by sending his first born Son to the earth to die for our sins and give us a hope for everlasting life.

Keeping this good spiritual routine has helped us get through all kinds of trials that this wicked world brings to us.  Having a strong and close relationship with our spiritual brothers and sisters has also helped us endure during these critical last days that Jesus taught us would be the sign of his presence and of the conclusion of this Satan controlled world. Matthew 24: 1-22

Day 44-Find A Role Model

Day 44- Find A Role Model- In today's world there are lots of books about the life and times of famous people who made their mark on the world.  But, did they really do something that changed the world for the better that lasted?  Sadly, the answer is no.

There is one person that did change the world for the better that lasted until our day and that was Jesus Christ.  He was the greatest man who ever lived.  He is the perfect role model for us all. Young or old, man or women we can all learn something positive from the example he left when on earth.

Why not read the Bible books starting with Matthew through John and see for yourself all that he did while here on earth and what his main reason was for coming to the earth was.  It will help you keep a positive attitude and reduce stress knowing that very soon all the wonderful miracles he performed back then will be done on a world-wide scale in the near future.

Day 43- Transform Your Mind- Adapting the thinking found in the scriptures has helped me in my life since I was a child many decades ago.  Thought I was going to tell you how old I am.  Not that I'm age conscious, I'll just say I was born in the 60's, how's that? hehe!!
I can remember as far back to when I was six years old and learning all the books of the bible in order.  We were constantly using the Bible at our Christian meetings so I quickly learned where all the books were by age eight.

We also have a ministry school at our Christian meetings and I joined that at eight years old and gave my first 5 minute part with an assistant.  We had a topic and had to look up the scriptures that supported that topic and explain it to someone.  That has helped me in our door to door ministry as well.

If all households had this kind of training the world would be a much different place. Instead of focusing on material things in life we focus on the spiritual things. Thus, I belong to a world-wide brother and sisterhood of over 7 million people world-wide that love one another just as Jesus taught us to do if we wanted to be one of his disciples.

That is a bond that can not be broken and a unity that crosses race, color and country. We apply Isaiah 2: 2-4 we truly love one another and have learned war no more.

Day 43: Transform Your Mind

Day 43: Transform Your Mind: I've learned that keeping a positive attitude helps reduce stress.  But, in today's world there are certain attitudes that make it difficult to keep that positive attitude within us.  So, what can help us maintain the positive once we've attained it?  The perfect scripture came to mind found at Romans chapter 12 verse 2. It says: "And quit being fashioned after this system of things, but be transformed by making your mind over, that you may prove to yourselves the good and acceptable and perfect will of God".

One of those harmful attitudes from the world is pride.  It's the wrong kind of pride that is harmful as found at James 4:16 " All such taking of pride is wicked".  Another, harmful attitude is envy or jealousy.  Which we have to fight off from our own sinful tendency toward these things as mentioned at James 4:5, 6-  "Or does it seem to you that the scripture says to no purpose: "It is with a tendency to envy that the spirit which has taken up residence within us keeps longing"? 6: "However, the undeserved kindness which he gives is greater. Hence, it says: "God opposes the haughty ones, but he gives undeserved kindness to the humble ones."

Day 42: Do One Less Thing- Lately, this has been my new best habit to do one less thing every day, and I'm really getting used to doing things this new way.  It has taken so much pressure off of me.  And, I have been exercising my right to say "No" to those who thought I was their personal secretary that are outside of my immediate family.  It feels so good to stand up and take charge of my life.

In fact, I've found that I'm being treated with more respect now that I respect myself more and others know that I do.  Now, if I can teach this to my quiet and shy daughter who doesn't know how to be assertive in the right way, I'll have accomplished a great task.

Day 42: Do One Thing Less

Day 42: Do One Thing Less- Less is more in this case. Get in the habit of doing one less thing each day. Purposely remove one item from your to-do list. Train yourself to accept that your world will not crumble if you don't achieve all you've set out to do.

Discover that life can be full, and can even feel complete, when some things go undone. Make a list of all the really important things that need to be done that week. Then break them down into a day by day list.  Like paying a bill or going to an appointment should be first on the list. Start with today, make it a one less thing to do day. You'll feel so much better getting all those things off your mind when you know it's already been decided you'll do it another day.

Day 41: Do Not Be Afraid of Bad News- This one came home to haunt me this week. My daughter went on a trip with a family friend and came home to tell me, guess what, they've invited me to move in with them, and pay no rent. Just do my spiritual activities and work a little part time job.  Of course, when she told me that she wasn't thinking what it was going to do to me emotionally.  She tells me everything so she didn't want to hide it from me just get it right out in the open. And, at 20 years old you don't think maybe this should wait until tomorrow, not right before bedtime.

But, I stopped and said a silent prayer and listened to the rest of her news about the trip.  And, the next day I thought really hard why my friend did what she did.  Her daughter moved out of the house and came to live with us, her Aunt.  It hurt her very much that her own daughter wanted to leave home and move in with her Aunt.  So, she was hurt and wanted to hurt someone else, even a friend.  Knowing her personality is like that I mulled the whole thing over and realized why she did it and now I'm not worried.

I told my daughter you are 20 years old now and need to spread your wings and learn a few lessons in life.  So time will tell what road she will travel and learn from her mistakes.  So, thank goodness I had just read that scripture and was able to remember it and put it into practice in my life.

That's why reading the Bible daily is so important, cause you never know what will happen and how you'll need the comfort of a particular scripture for the holy spirit to help you recall.

Day 41: Do Not Be Afraid Of Bad News

Day 41: Do Not Be Afraid of Bad News- What is your reaction when you first get some bad news?  Do you get sick to your stomach, or tight in the chest or maybe you have to sit down cause you feel faint.  Well, all of these are normal reactions to getting bad news depending on the degree of the news.  But, what can help us not be afraid of getting bad news?

This scripture was quoted in the 2009 Watchtower article Psalms 112: 6, 7 "The righteous one...will not be afraid of bad news."  This is an excerpt from that article: "Those whom God views as righteous cannot escape the effects of bad news, but it does not paralyze them with fear.  Instead, their hearts are "steadfast" and "unshakable" as they look to the future with confidence, knowing that God's righteous new world is near.  If disaster does strike, they are better able to cope with the situation because they rely on Jehovah for support.

He never allows his righteous ones "to totter"-he gives help and strength to endure.: (Phil. 4:13) end of quote.

Isn't that comforting to know that if we put first God's kingdom and his righteous he will never leave us in the lurch so to speak.  We can confidently rely on him for help no matter what the circumstances.

Day 40: When All Suffering Will End- Knowing that the words found in the Bible are faithful and true gives me confidence that the promises like this one will come true very soon.  I live each day waking up and looking forward to what I can share with someone about those coming promises.  It gives me great joy knowing that I can make a difference in someones life and bring them the lasting peace and joy that I experience daily from the hope found in the Bible.

When you have true faith that things are going to get better and you don't have to die and go to heaven to see these changes, you feel like a huge load has been lifted off your mind.  Learning the real purpose God created the earth and humans in the first place was to live forever in a beautiful paradise condition in perfect harmony with the animals and the earth makes complete since when you see all that is around us.

The great variety of plants and food made just for our enjoyment.  The vast variety in landscapes all over the earth. The sea life and the flying creatures all in great variety with a great design in each one gives one real cause to meditate on these wonderful works.

Stop and really think about it, do you long to die and go to heaven or do you long to have good health and enjoy life and live as long as you can?  That is because that is what we were made for to live forever in perfect health on this wonderful planet made just for us.  That is the real life, everlasting life on a paradise earth.  Will you live to see it?

Day 40: When All Suffering Will End

Day 40: When All Suffering Will End: Just think of a time when there will be no more war, no more poverty, no more housing shortages, no more sickness or death.  Hard to believe some may say.  But, if you read the Bible you'll know where I get this wonderful idea from.  It's not by any human government, history has surely proven that would be impossible for man to bring about.  They can't even cure the common cold much less end all sickness and war.

So, where do you put your trust?  It is in a wonderful promise God made when Adam and Eve sinned and brought us into this sad condition.  God promised a kingdom that would rule from heaven with Jesus as king.  When Jesus was here on earth you can read in the books of the gospel all about the miracles he performed along with preaching about the coming kingdom blessings.

That is what we pray for in the Lord's prayer, let your kingdom come, let your will be done on earth as in heaven.  Do you ever stop and think about what that really means?  You're asking for God to change the conditions here on the earth. You're asking for him to rule over mankind and to bring peace to the world.

Let me give you an illustration, suppose you wanted to go to a university to study medicine.  Would they just accept you with out an application first?  Would you be able to break the rules and stay in the course?  But, rather wouldn't you have to take an entrance test and pass with a certain score to get accepted in the University?  Wouldn't they give you a list of rules for getting to class on time, and if you miss so many classes you are dropped from that course and have to take it again next semester?

So, why wouldn't God do the same for those who will live on a clean, peaceful paradise earth?  He has all the requirements in the Bible and what is needed to be chosen to live under his new Kingdom here on the earth.  And, he tells us what is required at John 17:3 This means everlasting life, there taking in knowledge of you the only true God and of the one you sent forth Jesus Christ.

So, just like at a University you'd have a professor that would instruct you in the course you were taking, you need someone trained in the Bible to help you come to an accurate understanding so you can be accepted into that new world society.

Day 39: Maintain an Appreciative Attitude- As you can see from my above post that I am a student of the Bible. That is where I get my guidance to help me through every test that comes upon me in this wicked world we live in today.  Without that help and guidance I'd be lost, miserable and living my life for myself and not for God.

But, happily I know what he says is needed to be truly happy today and that is found at Matthew 6:25-34 Here we are promised that if we keep on seeking first his kingdom and his righteousness all the necessities of life will be given to us.  That doesn't mean we'll have steak and wine every day or live in a mansion. But, that we will be taken care of with food, clothing and shelter.

So, if ill health strikes you don't be anxious about your soul, just rely on the God who promised he will soon bring an end to all this suffering and keep on praying for endurance.

Day 39: Maintain an Appreciative Attitude

Day 39: Maintain an Appreciative Attitude-There has been an upward trend on talk shows and in magazine articles about being grateful for what you have in order to be happy in life.  Everywhere, you turn these days there are more and more articles about that.  It is obvious from the world we live in today why this is so.

When they started televising wars on tv while they happened, that was a wrong turn for humanity.  So, how can you keep a positive attitude when there is violence and wars all around you?  Let's take it in three steps.

First, what does the bible teach?  "In connection with everything give thanks" 1 Thessalonians 5:18

Second, what is the challenge?- We are surrounded by badness, people who are haughty and unthankful, attitudes that can rub off on us. (2 Timothy 3:1,2)  And, we all have the tendency to add more on our plate than we can reasonably handle.  This causes us to become so preoccupied with our own problems that we fail to take the time to appreciate what we already have or what others do for us.

Third, what can you do?- Take time out to stop and be grateful for the good things in your life.  Sometime, we will feel overwhelmed by problems, but consider an example found in the Bible of King David.  He had his share of trials and problems. Some brought on by others and some by himself. At Psalms 143:3-5 we read how he never became unthankful but kept an appreciative attitude and remained content.

So the next time someone does something kind for you express your appreciation by thanking them.  And, remember that every good gift comes from God, so we should thank him in our prayers daily.  By regularly doing so we will maintain an appreciative spirit and cultivate contentment. Philippians 4:6, 7

Day 38: Just Say No!- This has always been hard for me.  I tend to think I should help everyone that asks me to.  But, I soon learned as I matured that you can't say Yes! all the time either.  You soon get burned out and used up.  I finally have learned how to negotiate with those who want favors all the time.  If they want me to do something that they are just too lazy to do themselves I give them conditions that I will do this for them if they can meet my conditions.

This soon stopped the favors from being asked all the time and the endless phone calls.  Why, do others think that your life is less important than theirs and that you have nothing better to do with your time than to be their personal secretary or do gooder?

I can tell you it feels good to take back my own time and do what I need to do and not be doing things that are others responsibilities.  Now, more than ever this is very important in my life. So take back your life, just say NO!

Tuesday, September 28, 2010

Day 38: Just Say "NO"

Day 38: Just say "NO," that is the most powerful word in the English language, so why not use it to your advantage?  For some of us, saying no is just to hard to do.  We feel like if we say no we're going to let someone down.  But, that is not the case at all. No-is your barometer in life.  It is your way to keep the lid from flying off the pot, so to speak.  If you don't say no to the things that you really can not do then you are only hurting yourself.

Get into the habit of saying no-to unreasonable deadlines, obligatory social engagements, interruptions during dinner.  Say no to things you do out of habit or guilt, or to meet someone else's agenda.

When you do, you'll learn an important lesson; by saying no, you are better able to say yes to the things that truly matter in your life.

Day 37: Take a Break from the news- We dropped cable months back and still have one of the old tv's that isn't digital.  We just watch movies we buy or get through the mail the ones that we want to watch not the junk that is on tv most of the time.
I get my news from the Internet when I log on in the morning. Whatever is happening in the world comes up on the front page of my home page. I scroll through, check the weather for the day and week and then I've had enough of the news to last me all day.
My husband listens to a talk radio station in the car to and from work and if there is anything really important it's on there and he comes home and tells me about it.  It really feels good not to be watching one depressing item after another. And, that's all that seems to catch their attention.  So, it's off with the news around my house.

Monday, September 20, 2010

Day 37: Take a Break for the News

Day 37: Take a break for the news- Ever heard the expression, no news is good news?  Well, try turning off the tv or switch the station when the news comes on.  Even the newspaper is filled with local and national stories of bad things that are happening daily.
So instead of starting or ending your day on a negative note why not do the opposite, start it off and end it on a good note?

Read something inspirational, or that makes you laugh.  Listen to relaxing music before bedtime and something perky in the morning.  Watch kids movies.  Or, you could just start and end your day with silence and reflection on your day.   Use it to reflect on all the good you experienced in your life or heard from friends.

Day 36: Reward Yourself-  In order for me to reward myself I have to turn off the computer and just sit and relax making one of my crafts.  That is how I reward myself.  Doing something I really enjoy.  Occassionally,  it might me to go to my favorite resale shop and see what useful treasures I can find.

At other times it might just be to sit and look at the nature in my backyard.  Even though I live in a huge city of houses we have our own little patch of woods and plants, flowers of all kinds.
I like to think of it as my green filter from all the fumes in the air.  Our neighbor to our left has lots of trees in their backyard and we still have one empty lot across the street.  And one block over is woods and lakes so I just love our little corner of the world.  Then, all around our city is water and woods so that too helps filter the fumes that the highway creates.
Our town is called the city of lakes.  We have the St. Johns River on the west side and lots and lots of lakes all over the city.  Pretty cool I think.

Day 36: Reward Your Progress

Day 36: Reward Your Progress- Every step you make toward a goal is progress. Even if they're only baby steps. They don't have to be leaps forward, just moving ahead is what counts.  Don't let yourself regress back into a bad habit or way of thinking that undoes all the progress you make.

It's the same if you have to follow a sugar-free diet the first time you cheat you set yourself back to square one and all the good you did for your body is now wasted.  And, it's harder each time you do cheat to get back on the good routine.  It's easier to break a bad habit than it is to start a good one.

So, just think of how a baby expects positive reinforcement, so should you.  Reward your efforts.  Each time you take that next step forward, do something nice for yourself.  You deserve it!

Day 35:  Count Your Blessings- For each of us what we may consider a blessing is different depending on how we were raised.  If you were raised with a faith in God and that all good gifts and ever perfect present comes from above, then you know where your blessings come from.

I like to think of them as knowing I'm on the right track and that I'm doing everything I can in my life to live up to God's righteous standards.  And, for some that is hard to understand.  Why wouldn't God have standards for us when we humans have standards for ourself.

Wicked people are certainly not blessed by the true God.  They may be blessed by the god of this system of things, Satan the Devil.  2 Corinthians 4:4

But, where do the bad things that happen to us come from?  Some say God, because he has a plan for us.  But, is that what the Bible teaches?  And, isn't that where we want to go for the right answer and not just pick it out of the air. Yes, because God is loving and can not lie and no evil is found with God, according to the scriptures at 1 John 4:8, Titus 1:2 and James 1:13.

So the bad things that happen come from several sources. First, from our own imperfection. Second, circumstances beyond our control. Third, Satan because when he was thrown out of heavan as Revelation 12:9, 12 states, he came down with great anger, knowing that he has a short period of time, (before he is destroyed).

Day 35: Count Your Blessings

Day 35: Count Your Blessings- Past, Present and Future.  Whether you are a religious person or not you can still find the good in your life and where it came from.

Past Blessings- Think back as far as you can remember and write down all the good things that came into your life.  Things that were given to you, things that you earned, things that you really wanted.

Present Blessings-These are the things that happened to you this year.  If you prayed for things you needed and you received them write those down.  If you needed a friend to talk to and they called you or stopped by write that down. Any and every little thing it doesn't have to be an object it can just be something that filled a need.

Future Blessings- What would you say would be a future blessing for you? Would it fill a material need, a physical need or and emotional need?  It could be all three.  Well, think about this as a future blessing.
Think of a time when no one will pay for anything to survive. Think of a time when no one will die or be sick ever again.  Think of a time when everyone will have their own house and own garden and no one will come and take it away.  Think of a time when there will be no more war, violence or wickedness on the earth.  Think of a time when the earth will return to a healthy, pure environment.  Think of a time when there will be no more divisions among races.  Think of a time when there will be only one government.  Think of a time when there will be only one religion.
Do you know when that will happen?  Would you like to be a part of that?  You can, ask me how.

Day 34: Connect with Nature- I love to go outside in the morning and close my eyes and listen to all the sounds around me. I hear the birds singing of all varieties. I hear dogs barking, I feel the wind blowing across my face.  Then, I open my eyes and look at all the trees and flowers and insects buzzing past me.
I stop and thank God for being alive and giving me so much beauty to look at every single day.  It makes me happy and I feel calm inside.  I have bird feeders to attract different birds and of course the squirrels think it's just for them.  But, that's okay they need to eat too.  The birds get plenty too.
Then, I have an extra special treat of watching our cat sit inches away from the squirrels face and they chatter back and forth to each other until she finally springs up and misses it and the squirrel runs back up the tree.

Day 34: Connect With Nature

Day 34: Connect With Nature- Take a walk on the wild side. Get outdoors at least once a day. You don't have to travel great distances to enjoy the beauty and peacefulness of the natural world.  Even if you live in the city they have parks or community gardens you can take a stroll in.

So take a stroll down your street, go on a picnic, find a rock or tree to sit on.  Observe and listen to the complex beauty of the natural world around you.  Let yourself be at one with your surrondings. Close your eyes and just listen to all the animals and see if you can identify each one.

Day 33: Enjoy Creature Comforts- As I was saying yesterday that we have a cat which is Siamese, named Bubbles and a dog, Yorkie, named Spencer.  They keep me company during the day while my family is at work.  Every morning I let the cat in and feed her. She greets me with her morning meow and purrs away when I pour the food.

The Yorkie is attatched to my daughter and the minute she leaves to go to work he will stand at the door for about 10 minutes waiting and listening in the hope that she will come back soon.  And, no matter how many times I call him away and tell him she has gone to work he just looks back at me and stands there and then turns and looks at the door again.

I have the lovely job of feeding him too.  He is so well trained that he knows he has to sit first and then has a count-down and "ok" signal before he can eat.  I get a good laugh when he decides he wants more than what I just put in his bowl and instead of going to the bowl and eating right away after his signal he sits and looks at me.  I tell him the same thing every time, "Sorry, that's all you get today, buddy".  Then, he'll either go ahead and eat it or go back to my daughter's room and sleep until she gets home.

The only time he will come out of her room is when someone comes to the door and rings the bell.  Then, like lightening he runs to the door barking wildly hoping it is his "Kayla".  That is my little corner of the world with our critters.

Day 33: Enjoy Creature Comforts

Day 33: Enjoy Creature Comforts- What are creature comforts anyway? I like this definition I found on a website.

"You can define creature comforts in many ways, and many of us view some of our creature comforts as near necessities. They can be all the little things about the home that make it yours and cry out to you “Welcome!” when you enter the door, or they can be those nice simple things, like a great fluffy pillow that enhances your sleep at night. Could you live without a great fluffy pillow? Of course you could, but if you have the wherewithal, why should you forego it?

There are so many different types of creature comforts that it is challenging to put them into a single class or category. They can include most furniture, most bed and bath items, most kitchen supplies, and many types of clothing. When you think about it, there are many accessories or extras in your life that aren't necessary to survival. These may even include creature comforts we might list as basic things like toilets or beds. Such things are often viewed as necessities but it should be noted that much of the world’s population lives without them."

Now, let me turn your attention to another kind of "creature comfort," Pets!! Do you have one of those furry little four legged friend running around your house?  We have two, a cat and a dog.  Once, you get one and they wiggle their way into your heart you can't live without them.

Pets overlook our faults, are always happy to see us, and don't ask for a lot in return.  What a treat!  So spend time with your pet each day. Play with them, walk them, talk to them. They are really good listeners.

If you don't have your own critter, "borrow" one from a friend or family member, or visit a shelter or pet store. Hold them and cuddle them and let them feel loved.

Day 32: Smile Therapy- This one is one I came up with after my horrible ordeal with Lyme disease.  I would lie in bed at night feeling like I'd run a marathon all day and could get to sleep.  I would notice my body was tense and I felt awful.  I was introduced to a anxiety home course that came with a relaxation tape for you to use at night or during the middle of the day to unwind and relax.  That was the best thing I'd ever listened to.  It gave you a short simple exercie to do along with deep breathing to help you relax and get to sleep.

Then, I would feel so much better afterward that I would feel like smiling.  And, once I smiled I felt even better mentally.  So, every night that became my routine and I've been doing it ever since.  So, put it into practice in your life and start feeling what a difference a smile can make to your life!

I hope all my supporters are still following me out there.  I am happy to announce that my cancer is responding to treatment and I should be out of the woods completely by next month.  So, please say a big horrah!!!  And, please keep leaving your wonderful comments, they encourage me so much.  I hope I am encouraging you too!

Day 32: Smile Therapy

Day 32: Smile Therapy- Smiling comes easy to most of us when something makes us smile. But, what about the times there is nothing going on around us that makes us smile?  Or, at the end of the day when you're tired and worn out from the days events you may not feel like smiling.  What can help you smile more when you're not feeling chipper and perky?  Make smiling a daily routine.  Smile for 5 minutes a day when you find that you're feeling depressed or not feeling very well.

Stand at a window and look out over the landscape and find something that brings a smile to your face.  Now, exercise your smile muscles and do it in reps of 20 for 5 minutes a day.  You'll be surprised how this will get you into the smile habit that will change your life for the good. So come on smile a little!

Day 31: Look For the Good- We all tend to stray away from looking for the good in those around us everyday.  I'm working on looking for the good in those I'm around everyday and compliment them on something different their good at daily.  I always thank my husband for providing for the family daily, weekly, monthly, yearly.  You may not think that is so important, but there are some husbands that go from job to job because they don't take their obligation seriously.
I thank my daughter for contributing toward the family financially now that she is working.  She never complains and is ready to help out in other ways as well when asked.  I buy her little gifts throughout the year to show her how much she is valued and loved.

One of my friends daughter told me that her Mom doesn't have a clue of what she likes and when they give gifts once a year at their Anniversary she always gets things she doesn't like and just gets thrown in a drawer.  That was so surprising to me because I listen to what my daughter talks about and I pay attention to what she buys, the books she reads etc...

And, don't be afraid to ask someone what they'd like or tell someone what you'd like when gift buying.  I hear to from friends, "They are so hard to buy for," that usually is because the person is picky and doesn't value the spirit of giving.

Day 31: Look For The Good

Day 31: Look for the good, be surprised. Find pleasures in the little things. If you know you will be around someone that always seems to bring out the worst in you, stop and look for the good in that person. Tell yourself something wonerful will happen.

Or, perhaps you will find a great new place to buy your favorite collectibles. Maybe an idea will come to you of how to solve a problem you've been working on. Whatever, the day brings look for the good.

You don't have to look far or hard they will come unexpectedly and surprise you.

Day 30: Find Refreshment in Spiritual Things- Weekly bible study is a routine at our house. I couldn't get through my week if we didn't prepare for the spiritual meal the faithful slave provides for our congregations. Worldwide there are over 100,000 congregations that they take care of and care for the spiritual needs of every member. And, that is no small feat, there are over 7 million men, women and children.

We are provided with the same information that builds us up to deal with these "critical times hard to deal with." 2 Timothy:1-5

When I became ill with Lyme disease five years ago they came to my aid and helped take care of me and my 13 year old daughter. For seven months on a daily basis they took shifts taking care of me until my Mother could take over. Truly, a loving sisterhood they proved to be. John 13:35

Day 30: Find Refreshment in Spiritual Things

Day 30: Find Refreshment in Spiritual Things- In today's hectic world that is full of stresses from everywhere you turn you need to find a place you can be refreshed.  Getting together with family and friends can be refreshing.  But, the activities you do at those times can be very important.
Talk about spiritual things that refresh and build up the person.  Wise King Solomon declared: "With a man there is nothing better than that he should eat and indeed drink and cause his soul to see good because of his hard work." Eccl. 2:24

Our gatherings not only refresh the soul but also strengthen our bond of love with family and friends as we get to know them better.  It is best to keep the gathering small in order to get to know ones better and contribute to a memorable and up building occasion.  Do bible research together or read a part out of the Bible and each one has a part.

Research topics that you are unfamiliar with. For example, do you know God's name?  It appears over 7,000 times in the original manuscripts, but it has been replaced with GOD or LORD.  Why did they take the name of God out of the Bible?  When did they first start replacing his name with these titles?  Where does God's name appear in the Bible?  Why do you need to know and use God's name?

Those are just some of the questions you can ask and do research on to build one another up in these stressful times.

Day 29: Visualization- With Your Minds Eye- I love to see myself as I will be in God's new order after he has rid the earth of all those ruining it and the wicked.  I find that when I awake in the middle of the night and can't get back to sleep right away that is the perfect time to visualize where I will be in his purpose for the earth. Having a perfect body, perfect glowing health and exploring every corner of this earth.

It's a great feeling looking ahead to those times and it gives me strong faith and a hope that I know will be fulfilled.  I think about where I want to live, by the sea or mountains.  What kind of house we will build. What I will plant and how  the yard will be landscaped.  Each time I imagine something different.
I also visualize us keeping our life simple day by day to accomplish just having the necessities of life. I know that if we keep putting first God's kingdom and his righteousness he will provide for our daily needs.

Day 29: Visualize- In Your Minds Eye

Day 29: Visualize-in your minds eye. See yourself as you want your life to be.  Stop just thinking about it and talking about it- See it!

Visualization is a tool that can help give your life shape and substance.  It's what dreams are made of.  Simply visualize what you want in your mind's eye-a new job, place to live, better relationships, better health, whatever.  Make it as real and specific as possible.

When you do, you are placing yourself in that new setting and that you will settle for nothing less.  Be a doer not just a hearer only.

Day 28:  Work Softer- I was forced into a slower pace 5 years ago when my health failed to live up to my expectations.  I can't even turn fast or my head will swim and I'll feel awful for minutes and have to sit down.  So, I go at a steady slow pace.  I think about what I need to do and then get all my ducks in a row, so to speak and begin the task at hand.

I'm one of those people that sees the mountain and breaks it down into smaller hills that I can manage and get to work organizing it the way I want it to be.  Some, will see the mountain and just leave it because they can't see the end result or they just don't like hard work.  But, clutter effects your mind and causes you stress.  So, don't leave it, clean it up one baby step at a time.  That doesn't mean working for 10 minutes today and 10 minutes next week.  That means working 10 minutes every hour if need be, according to your energy and strength to get the task done.

That is how I approach my tasks.  I work on them in the morning when I have the most energy.  Then, by afternoon I sit and do things while I'm resting like crocheting or sorting through those piles of junk mail and papers that need to be filed.
By evening I've taken a nap and finish my day with my family eating dinner and watching a movie or Bible tape and a little more hand work.

Day 28: Work Softer

Day 28: Work Softer- Don't work harder, work softer!  There's no reason to race through your day, gritting your teeth and tensing your muscles.  Believe it or not, you can accomplish more when you move more slowly, thoughtfully.

Conserve your energy for the things that matter most.  Spend as much time planning as doing.  Learn to go with the flow-and to enjoy the journey.

"When Stress Becomes an Enemy"
"What if your body is constantly revved up?  Your muscles remain tense, your pulse rate nd blood pressure stay high, and elevated levels of cholesterol, fats, sugars, hormones and other chemical linger in the blood.  Prolonged elevated levels of such chemicals-meant for short, intense, and infrequent bursts of activity-eventually damage important body organs. With what consequences?

You may begin experiencing backaches, headaches, muscle spasms of the neck, and muscle tension.  According to doctors, those symptoms are often related to chronic stress.  Ongoing stress can hamper creativity and productivity, as well as erode enthusiasm and damage interpersonal relationships.  It can also lead to irritable bowel syndrome, diarrhea, and esophageal spasms.  Th consequences of chronic stress may even be more serious.  Stroke, heart attack, kidney failure, cardiovascular problems, and diabetes may be caused by or made worse by prolonged stress." quoted from Awake! journal June 2010

"Because of the secretion of cortisol in long-term stress," writes Van der Merwe, "fat tends to accumulate around the abdomen and back."  Skin disorder, such as eczema and psoriasis, are associated with - or aggravated-stress."

Day 27: Take A Walk- For me going outside in the summer heat in Florida is out of the question, unless absolutely necessary.  So, I do my walking inside my house. I open the doors of each room so I have easy access and walk for up to 10 minutes at a time.  I move my arms slowly up and down and think of a relaxing park filled with flowers and birds and children playing and laughing.

By the time I'm finished I feel relaxed and calmer.  Ready, to continue my day in a more tranquil mood.

Day 27: Take A Walk

Day 27: Take A Walk- When you are feeling stressed or having a tense moment talk a walk. Get out of the house if you can or go to the mall or Walmart. Anywhere to get your mind off yourself and relax.  Looking at nature just automatically brings a calm to your being.
Let go of all the tension, frustrations and anxieties that can slip into your day.  Sing or hum or even whistle your favorite tune.  Take along a portable radio with earphones or your I-pod.
The walk and the music will do you good and get your mind on something that will change your mood to the better.

Day 26: Get to bed early- My bedtime has changed drastically over the last five years due to my health issues.  I started with 9 p.m. and that stayed pretty much the same until about a year ago. I have improved to the point that I can stay up until 10 p.m. now. Wahoo! My family loves it and so do I.
And, boy do I ever feel better when I can sleep straight through to 8 or 9 a.m.  I take a product by Neuro Science called Neurotransmitters that balance the serotonin and other chemicals in the brain.
My brain chemistry was disrupted by the Lyme disease and this natural product has literally given me back my ability to read, talk on the phone, stand loud noices, stand bright light and sleep.

You can have a simple urine and saliva test that will establish what is in need of balancing in the brain.  The lab is run by Blue Cross and Blue Shield in CA. So lots of insurance companies will pay for the test.  I have one once a year to see where I'm at and the results always show an improvement.

I would highly recommend everyone getting the test and taking the product. It is safe for even children and effective. It is something you have to take permanetly to keep yourself balanced.  It can help ADD and AD/HD in children and adults alike.
You can order the test from http://www.ovitaminpro.com/  they also provide the product at the lowest price available. I order from them all the time.  I do not get any money from your purchase, this is just information I want to pass on because I know how vital it is for everyone. Especially, for those under stress.

My daughter started on the product after her testing two years ago. We were in a car accident and that impact effects the brain chemistry.  She also has a problem with staying focused and the Neuro Science Formula's have improved her thinking and retention abilities for work.

Day 26: Get to Bed Early

Day 26: Get to bed a little earlier than usual.  For some of us sleep is the only down time.  And, some don't even get enough sleep.  Studies show that getting to bed before 10 p.m. is the most benefical for the brain and body.  After that the body doesn't rest the same and you'll wake up feeling it.

Try this, once a week go to bed 30 minutes earlier than you normally would.  Don't take a book or watch tv in bed. This is the brains time to rest.  Turn off the lights and get to sleep!

You'll notice the next morning how much that extra 30 minutes made.  Try to increase the time until you can get to bed before 10 p.m and see if you don't thank yourself for doing it.
You'll feel fresh as a daisy, raring to go.

Day 25: Take Five- For me I start my day by reading from my book called;  "Examining the Scriptures Daily" that is taken from our study articles from the past year.  This gives us a reminder of what we've studied in the congregation's bible study every Sunday.
It's the greatest spiritual food put together for us so that we can keep ourselves focused and stay awake to the times we're living in and how close we are to the promises found in the Bible.

Then, before bed I reread the scripture and the surrounding chapter's so that I go to bed with a connection with my God. It's like wrapping myself in a warm blanket and feeling I'm loved.

Day 25: Take Five

Day 25: Take Five- This is not putting yourself on a time out. This is taking five precious minutes at the beginning of each day an at the end of the day to read something inspirational: uplifting quotations, a passage from the Bible or other religious text or even a book that you find inspiring.

Read slowly, thoughtfully-with heart.  Again, meditate on what you are reading so it can give you that inner calm and peace.  Let the words enter in your mind and effect you heart to bring you comfort, joy and insight.

Day 24: Journaling- I have several journals for different subjects.  I find that I usually make time to write in them once a week.  I like to read what I've written a week or so before to see where I've been and where I am now.  It reminds me of self and brings me a connection of my accomplishments.

I think out of all the things I do with my hands making things brings me the most inner feeling of accomplishment. Writing my accomplishments down is a permanent reminder of what I've done with my time.  A farmfriend sent me a knitting/crochet journal.  I started keeping a log of what I make and there is a place to add a picture. That I like, because some of my things I sell or give to friends. This way I can remember what I've made.

Day 24: Journaling

Day 24: Journaling- I've talked about making a list, making a scrapbook and now make or buy a journal.  Journaling is a great antidote to stress.  That's because it gets out your true deep thoughts and feelings, and brings out your most precious dreams.

Make journaling a daily or weekly habit.  Buy a special pen or make up a fancy one yourself with some pretty paper or fabric and just glue it around the pen. Tie some ribbon at the end and you've got your special journaling pen.

Don't cross out or erase, just let the thoughts flow across the page. It's your book so who cares if you change your mind on a matter, you can write that down too.  We change our feelings on things as we mature and grow in wisdom day by day and year by year.

For me my journaling is best done at night before I go to bed.  It helps me get things off my mind so I can sleep better.

Day 23: Make Your Own Soundtrack- I need to make another cd from Walmart. I made one about a year ago with so many great songs I'd remembered from my childhood that my mother would play and from my favorite movies.
I'm making a list of the songs I liked from different movies and then I'm going to make my next one for my reducing stress journey.

Thursday, August 19, 2010

Day 23: Make Your Own Soundtrack

Day 23: Make Your Own Soundtrack- These days you can make a cd of all of your favorite songs instead of having to buy the whole cd and skip songs you don't like.  I made up one of my favorite songs on http://www.walmart.com/  it costs little to do and you can add as many songs as you choose.

Start your day with music that makes you glad to be alive.  Choose music that makes you smile or dance, or that reminds yo of special people, places and occasions.

Bring it with you in the car. Let it lift you above the routines of the everyday life. Sing along that gives you even more feelings of happiness.

Day 22: Bible Study and Research- I have a Bible textbook on the book of Revelation.  It gives a verse by verse explanation of each chapter.  It is fantastic!  I wouldn't be without it.  Most people I talk to always ask me about the book of Revelation and what it all means.  I always give them a copy of this wonderful textbook and they are so thankful.

When you have the right tools, Bible study can be fun and easy.  It is hard work that pays off in the end with everlasting results.  I say hard because it takes discipline to read it each week and meditate on what you've read so you don't forget the most important parts.

It's like having your favorite meal once a week and thinking back at how you enjoyed making it and and eating it. So make time for Bible study and meditate on what you've learned daily.

Day 22: Bible Study and Research

Day 22: Bible Study and Research- When you read the bible it does help reduce stress by bringing you closer to God. But, studying and researching different sections you are reading about does wonders to get your mind off yourself.  And, that is our goal to keep our minds positive and filled with positive beneficial things.

Supplies You'll Need: Bible Concordance, Reference Bible,  a Mini Bible Encyclopedia, and a Bible in Modern English.
The source that I use is free even the shipping is free at http://www.watchtower.org/ and they have many Bible textbooks as well that I find extremely beneficial in my studies.

Let's start with one scriptures that discuss the changes God will bring about on the earth. You draw your own conclusions. I am a trained Bible instructor so you may feel free to ask any questions you have if you don't understand or if it is a new discovery than what you have known all your life.
This is intended for benefiting and building us up during these hard times. It is not intended to become a debate on beliefs. So, please keep that in mind with your comments.
I will post my research each day and you do the same with yours. I will give further scriptural references to explain a specific topic. Let's keep this fun!

Topic #1- Revelation 21:4- "He will wipe out every tear from their eyes, and death will be no more, neither will mourning nor outcry nor pain be anymore."
Let's start with the first reference in that verse is the word tear. It gives two other scriptures to refer to. First, Isaiah 65:19 and Revelation 7:17. From Isaiah it refers you to Jeremiah 31:12, Isaiah 35:10 and back to Revelation 21:4. From Revelation 7:17 refers to Isaiah 25:8. From Isaiah 25:8 refers you back to Isaiah 35:30, Revelation 21:4 and  7:17.

So, you see how the scriptures teach by scriptures. And, of course you need someone trained in scripture to explain how to use a reference Bible and how to understand the time period it is refering to. Which all of these are refering to the time when those living now who God deems worthy to survive his coming "great day" and those who will be resurrected in the future will experience these blessings.
But, let's just take one step at a time. Do your research and let me know how you do tomorrow. If you can't find any of the supplies email me and I will send them to you free.

Day 21: Qualities That Reduce Stress: I take each quality in Galatians 5: 22,23 and research them one by one in the scriptures using the above formula and with scriptural articles found in my Bible journals that discussed these over the years. I find it helps me discipline myself to work on the aspect of each qualitiy I'm lacking in in some way.
Due to my Lyme disease causing a disruption in my moods and thinking I find that I get upset more easally with my loved ones over the smallest of things. That just aggrevate my mind and cause me to loose my calm, cool and normally collected state of mind.
I think my childhood is coming back to haunt me in that respect. My father was always yelling at us for every little thing we did.
I don't yell but my temper changes quickly and I hate that. I used to be so in control of my emotions. So, the only thing I've found to help combat this is doing bible research on that quality. And of course, lots of prayers for holy spirit to bring me a calm and mild temper.
I find to the minute I feel my emotions starting to change I look for a humours way to say something to make myself calm down.

Day 21:Qualities That Reduce Stress

Day 21-Qualities That Reduce Stress- How can a quality reduce stress you may ask; A medical doctor explains the value of applying such Bible teachings as found at Galatians 5:22, 23, especially helpful in today's world to reduce stress. "Dealing respectfuly with people:, he says, "is a big stress reliever."

What are these qualities? Love, joy, peace, long-suffering, kindness, goodness, faith, mildness and self-control, which are called "the fruitage of God's spirit."  The Bible also helps us cultivate modesty, which means having a moderate estimate of our abilities. Micah 6:8

As hard as this may be to cultivate, we may need to learn when and how to say no to demands that exceed what we realistically can handle. One way to adopt these qualities is to not expect perfection of yourself or others. Ecclesiastes 7:16

Day 20: Meditate- I love to read the Bible and I subscribe to Bible journals that teach us how to apply scriptures in our life to be happier servants of God in these difficult last days.  I find that when I meditate on these articles and the scriptures that I have read brings me the most peace and calmness of anything else I've tried.
They are always filled with timely articles of current events to help people cope with today's hardships and articles of other Christian's who have faced difficulities in their life and how they coped by applying Bible principles.
In fact the June issue of this year was based on how to relief stress.  And, it's not just based on secular knowledge it gives you the Bible scriptures so you can turn to God for help directly.
The July issue is based on the unemplyment issue and give tips of how to live on less income. This is a power packed article with great tips and again scriptures to help you to cope with a loss of reduced income.  I've applies their suggestions in our family and they really work and have helped us to be happier and look for ways to cope with living on less income nowadays.
Just ask me if you'd like these issues, I have extra copies I'd be glad to send to you.

Day 20: Meditate

Day 20: Meditate- Meditation can take many forms. You can just relax with the room quiet and just think of restfull and peaceful surroundings. Don't let your mind wander, but focus on things that bring your inner peace to the forefront of your mind.

Bring back scriptures that make you happy and think of a bright future ahead. Think of good expereinces with loved ones you shared in the past.

Don't worry about what you will accomplish in those few quiet moments-just go with the flow. Let your thoughts take you to a better place and enjoy the peace from within.

Day 19: Set the Table- I posted a picture of a table setting I did for our last tea party. Today, I got out one of my bright white with pink tableclothes and set the table with my vintage 50's center piece. After looking at it I said it just doesn't go with that cheerful tablecloth.
So I looked in my kitchen and found a crystal bowl with colorful flower design that did the trick.
That's one spot in the house that I can change weekly to a new theme that makes me feel happy and gives me lots of enjoyment coming up with new ideas and center pieces. And, it doesn't cost me anything for the new decorations, I just look in my china cabinet for new pieces that I havn't had out since my last party.
Set the table for yourself once in a while even if you're not having guests for dinner.

Thursday, August 12, 2010

Day 19:Set the Table

Day 19: Set the Table-A pretty table can transform a meal into a special event.  Why save your pretty dishes for company or special occassions?  Why restrict candles or flowers t infrequent romantic dinners?

Get out that favorite tablecloth, the good flatware, the delicate crystal dishes.  Use placemats and cloth napkins to add color and flair, and serving bowls and table decorations to elevate even the most ordinary of meals.

Live-in style!

Day 18: Take a Nap! For me taking a nap is a daily requirement. By 4 o'clock my brain is getting slower and I'll get a headache and start to feel awful. So, I just nap and within an hour I'm fresh enough to make dinner and relax for the evening with the family.

Tuesday, August 10, 2010

Day 18:Take A Nap

Day 18: Take A Nap- You don't have to be a kid to take a nap.  A quick nap after lunch or before dinner will relax and recharge your body and mind. Even if you can't sleep, the very act ofclosing your eyse can work wonders.

Let your body dictate how long you sleep. If you work take a 10-15 minute nap on your lunch break. Set the alarm on your cell phone to wake you up. When you open your eyes, you'll feel ready to start the rest of your day anew.

Day 17: Eat Right For Your Type- Like I was saying yesterday, I follow the "Eat right for your type" (blood) diet. When I first got on the plan it was about 12 years ago. I weighed 170 pounds from a second pregnancy, but had a miscarriage. A friend of mine started the plan and told me about it. Since, I wanted to loose the weight I started his suggestions for my blood type and became active exercising (walking, bike riding and tennis). In four months I lost down to 140 pounds and kept at that weight and never gained back what I lost.
My overall health improved and I felt better than I had my whole life.

So give it a try and see how much better you feel and find out what your perfect weight should be.

Monday, August 9, 2010

Day 17: Eat Right For Your Type

Day 17: Eat Right For Your Type- There is a book by Dr. D'Adamo called "Eat Right For Your Blood Type" and I follow it with good results. Now, you can also pay for an expensive blood test that will tell you the foods you are allergic to or should avoid, but this can change over time.
I have found that after having skin testing  to only a few foods that are the most popular or the ones I ate the most that I was tested for I was not allergic to them. So, after comparting the tests with his diet for my blood type "O" I have felt better and had more energy.

Giving your body the right fuel it needs to work effecienty makes all the difference in how you feel and look. Eat lots of fresh fruits and vegetables and a low-fat diet is best. Eat 5 small meals a day instead of 3 big ones. Drink plenty of water, usually 8-10 8 ounce glasses a day to keep yourself hydrated and to cleanse your system.

Don't deny yourself treats, but remember- a healthy body that serves you well through the years is the biggest treat of all. So, make the snacks healthy ones. Use organic ingredients whenever possible.

Day 16: Take the Day Off- For me this is a regular happening. I am home daily and can control my surroundings. If I feel like no noise I just don't have any. If I want to call a friend and talk I do.  I turn the ringer down or off on the phone and take a nap daily.
Whatever, the situation for that day is what determines my activity level and noise level.
On Mondays, I have the house cleaned by a friend, so on that day I know I have to be dressed and ready for activity during most of my day.  The rest of the week is quiet and I can go at my own pace. I love the peace and quiet when I'm home alone.
It wasn't always a welcomed thing and I had to learn to adjust to the new changes in my life.

Sunday, August 8, 2010

Day 16: Take the Day Off

Day 16: Take the Day Off- Wouldn't it be nice to wake up without having anything to do? If all you had to do was be?  Well, why not make that day today? Take a "mental health" day. Let your loved ones or friends know that you'll be off-duty for an hour or two, or maybe five or six.

The world will go on spinning, but, at least for a while, you won't have to spin with it. Put on a relaxation tape and just chill-out. Turn the ringer off on the phone and let yourself discover your inner peace of mind. It really helps reduce stress.

Day 15: Start a Scrapbook- I have lots of family and friend event scrapbooks. They are all sizes and filled with pictures and journaling of what we did and where we were at the time. I have a wedding album, a vacation album, a friends album, and a gardening album. So, now I'm going to add to that collection and start a Reducing Stress Journey Album and include all the cards and pictures of gifts I've received since I started on this journey.  It will be my special place to go and reflect how loved I am and that I'm not alone. I never want to forget all the special people who helped me get through this new adventure in yet another one of life's challenges.

Day 15: Start a Scrapbook

Day 15: Start a Scrapbook- Here's another fine way to reduce stress and have fun at the same time. Collect the things you love doing: clip pictures from events you've attended or vacation places you've been or would like to go to. Anything that has a special appeal for you, start collecting them and put them in your "reducing stress" scrapbook.

Every time you add to it, take the time to scan through it at all the things you love that bring you happiness and give you a purpose in life. Start with a small 8x8 scrapbook kit that comes with all the papers, stickers and embellishments. That way it won't stress you to come up with color ideas or worrying about everything needing to be matching just so.
Start a vacation scrapbook or a gardening scrapbook. Just be creative and have fun with it. Don't let it be perfect, let it be you. Just go with the flow.

Go through old photo books and take out the ones you want to go in your new scrapbook. The possibilities are endless at how you lay out each page. Make it fun and different. Try to work outside the lines. Scrap outside the box.

Day 14: Getting Rid of Fears- In the last five years, I'd have to say my fear factor went off the charts because of my health going from normal chronic illnesses to major uncurable illnesses. I woke up one morning around 5 a.m. and my life changed from calm and normal to a living nightmare all in a matter of seconds.
I'd just gone to the bathroom and back when all you know what broke loose.  For the next 6 months I didn't know if I'd live or die. The doctors did not know what was wrong with me and just sent me home to die. Obviously, I didn't because here I am 5 years later still alive.
A dear friend told me about a homeopathic doctor that might be able to help me. Well, she was more than right. I was in a wheel chair and could bearly sit up because I was so weak. My body was shutting down organ by organ and I had lost 40 pounds in 6 months.
From that first visit I got my life back one day at a time. But, the fear of getting up out of bed during the night terrified me more than if someone had a gun to my head. I would have taken the gun over the unknown of would I keep having these awful attacks of burning up on fire and shaking uncontrollable for hours. With each attack I would loose weight.
But, thank God, and I do mean it was because of him that I managed to live through all this, that as the years went by and the attacks came less and less often and the weight finally stopped dropping off and started to go up that my fear finally started to subside.
I actually pray evertime I get up and make it back to bed safe and sound. And, I've been doing that nonstop for the last five years, faithfully.

Day 14: Getting Rid Of Fears

Day 14: Getting Rid Of Fears- Fear isn't something to fear. It is something to understand, so it can become a tool for achieving your dreams.

Fear, you see, is a placemark that takes note of where your pages of resistance lie. It also is a natural response when you journey to uncharted territory in life. It is going outside your comfort zone.

So don't try to run away from fear, meet it headon. Listen to what your fears are trying to tell you about yourself. Only then can you move forward in life and follow your dreams.

Day 13: DIY Massage- This one I learned years ago from a cable show all about organic living and relaxing. I don't usually massage my feet, but I do like to massage my scalp. I find that it relaxes me the best. At the end of the day I like my daughter to massage my hands right before I go to sleep. And, if my dear husband isn't too tired he'll massage my feet and lower legs. I find that is where most of my tensions end up. It also helps my digestion and circulation.

DIY Massage

Day 13: DIY Massage- You don't need a professional masseuse to get rid of body tension. A do-it-yourself foot, hand or head massage can work wonders, especially at the end of a busy day.  Your fingers and some body oil are the only equipment you'll need.

Sit comfortably as you gently massage your palms, fingers and backs of your hands. Next up: your toes, arches and heels. Then the scalp: start at the front using both hands with fingertips using gently pressure work your way to the back of the neck and back to the forehead. Literally knead the tension away.

When done, sit quietly for several minutes to gain the full benefits of this relaxing workout.

Day 12: Get Support- That is exactly what I did when I had the report of cancer. I said to myself, you need support from caring people who are understanding and going through or been through tough patches with their health as well. My friends offline and online have been my support group from day one of this reducing stress journey.  You can get through anything if you know you are not alone. "Thank you" to all who are making this journey bearable each day for me. I love you dearly!

Day 12: Get Support

Day 12: Get Support! We all need friendly, supportive souls in our lives, especially when we enter uncharted territory or move in new directions. i.e. new health issue

Seek these folks out. ask for their help. Let them know where you are and where you hope to be.

Check in with them regularly. Better yet, consider forming a  support group of those making similar journeys. Relay yor dreams and fears. Gain strength from your shared adventures in life.

DAY 11: Silence is Golden!  My quiet time is when I'm home alone. I can turn the ringer off on the phone and just relax. I can sew, read a book or just take a nap.  Early morning in the garden is also a time for me to reflect on how good God is and to enjoy all our hard work. Just watching the plants grow gives me such happiness.  I also have a bird feeder and birdbath in the backyard right where I can see the birds and squirrels at play. I just love nature.  We have hundreds of different plants all over the front and back yard. The more flowers the better is my motto.
For my Anniversary we started a rose garden. So, each year I get two new rose bushes to tend and delight at the beautiful colors in bloom and think of my loving family that loves me enough to bring them to me.

Day 11-Silence is Golden

Day 11-Discover the sound of silence. You've heard "silence is golden", well it's true. Shrill alarm clocks, blaring car horns, babbling tv's loud radio's-we are surrounded by noises tha drown out our inner voices. It's time to turn down the volume.

Seek out silence. Create quiet pockets in your life. Turn down the ringer on the phone. Put the cell phone on vibrate. Turn off the car radio. Hang a "DO NOT DISTRUB" sign on your office door.

Give your ears and mind the rest they deserve.

Day 10-Color Your World! I had to do some searching for odor free crayons. Jovi Color makes them and says no odor. So, I'll let you know if they bother me and if that is true or not. Have to order them online, can't find them in any of the stores around where I live.

I have chemical sensitivity disorder, asthma and allergies so anything and everything that smells bothers me. I told my husband if the commercial world says it's odorless I can still smell something chemically in it. I should have a job detecting chemicals in things and get paid to do it. Wouldn't work though since I have to breathe through a mask the minute I step out the door.lol

I buy coloring books that reflect past history. The Smithsonian and historical communities like St. Augustine, FL or Williamsburg, VA are great places to find coloring books that adults wouldn't mind coloring in.  The pages are thicker and don't have that funny smell the cheaper coloring books for kids have.  I'll have to post on the MJF for my farmgirl friends to go on a coloring book hunt for me; since my traveling days are past me now.

Day 10: Color Your World

Day 10: Color Your World: Become a kid again. Buy yourself a box of crayons and re-experience the joy of having the colors of the rainbow at your fingertips.

Let your creative juices flw. Fill your sheet of paper with colorful pictures or just fill in the page with color. Create new and colorful worlds that are yours for the exploring. Buy grown up coloring books with art themes and make them your own works of art.

This reminds me of when I was a child. Evertime I was sick, which was often, my Dad would bring home a new box of crayons and a coloring book and a bottle of ginger ale. My siblings were always so jealous of me with my stack of books and crayons. Little did they know it came at a high price.

Day 9: Call A Friend:
I am very blessed with a group of friends that I can call whenever I need to talk and have the support to see me through whatever I'm going through at the time.  They know that I'll be there too when they need to talk to me. Being a good listener and giving advise to a friend is an art. Not everyone wants to hear your troubles, but the ones that do, they are keepers. Those are true friends.

Day 9: Call a Friend

Day 9: Call A Friend: Proverbs 18:24b-There exists a friend sticking closer than a brother.
A true friend is a priceless treasure. Being a true friend is just as important. Friends know who we are and where we've been and where we'd like to be. Just as important, they give us what we often cannot give ourselves-perspective and honesty.

When you're having trouble seeing straight, or you  just need someone to listen, let a friend help you. Give her a call, send her an E-mail, get together for tea or coffee. Talk you heart out and let her work hr magic.

Let her be the mirror that reflects your true thoughts, feelings and specialness. You may not agree with everything she says, but reflect on it and take to heart that this person loves you and wants the best for you.

Day 8: Know your Bounds: I started a list of the things that cause me stress. I realized that they are silly things that don't mean a thing. Or, they are things that I have no control over.
Most of them are things that I worry about that might happen, but probably never will.  Others were things that are just day to day happenings like dirty dishes that need to be washed or the yard that needs to be mowed. Or, when my DH tells me the same story 5 times. Or worrying about having enough money to pay the bills that week.

Making this list really helped me put things in perspective. So what if there are chores to be done, they eventually get done. So what, if my DH tells me the same story over and over, let him. I will be there one day myself.  And, just because bad things have happened to me in the past doesn't mean they are going to happen again tomorrow! And, I know that God promises me that if I put his Kingdom first in my life he will add all the things I need to survive, and he has done that for me time and again without fail!

Day 8: Know Your Bounds

Day 8: Know Your Bounds: Knowing what you want in life is important, but so is knowing what you don't want. Let me explain.
Make a list of the things that cause you stress: rude behavior by a loved one, overscheduled days, a diet high in bad fats. These are the things that are out of bounds in your life.

Now, commit to purging one item from your list-not next week or year, but today. Start small, simply, then work your way up. By getting rid of the old out of bounds stuff you will make a new way for yourself with the things that are inbounds that don't cause you stress.

Day 7: Grow where you're planted: My garden was started small this year. I've learned a lot from doing it that way. For instance, I know not to put plants with running vines like squash in a small space. And, I learned to put down lots of seeds per person to get the yield you need for your diet.
I'm very disappointed at how long it takes squash to grow and produce. I had two vines, one died that had a squash growing on it and the other one looks great but no fruit. The tomato is growing like a weed. The black-eye pea is doing fair. The rest didn't even make it past seedlings.
So, I'm starting over with more compost, potting soil and all the other stuff and see if these seeds do any better. I was worried about the hurricane's but now I'm worried about the heat.
I'm going to get this to be a thriving garden, so help me.

Day 7: Grow Where Your Planted-Garden

Day 7: Grow Where Your Planted-Garden
Bringing life to being-garden. Whether you have 50 acres or none you can grow plants and flowers. Use a windowsill planter or patio pots and plant a wide variety of herbs and flowers and vegetables.
If you have a backyard then plant in a space that you can manage well on your own. Many citites have neighborhood landscaping programs. So check those out too.
Whatever the case just get out the gloves and hat and dig in the dirt.

Plan you garden with love and care. Attend it daily, as you water, prune and weed talk to them and really get into the feel of helping something to grow. It is a real thrill to watch your "babies" grow. Buy a garden almanac. Some places give them away free, like feed stores. You can also visit http://www.humeseeds.com/ and buy an almanac for $2.50 each.

Day 6: Laughter- Between watching the silly habits of our cat and dog with the squirrels, lizzards and birds I get to laugh everyday. I have a supply of funny movies I watch too when I need that extra pick-me-up. Yesterday, I watched Money Pit with Tom Hanks, I thought I would have an asthma attack from laughing so hard, I could hardly catch my breath.
When my daughter and I are telling stories of different family happenings we are usually rolling and tears are running down my face relating them to each other.
My husband was born in South America and even though he has lived here for over 35 years he still does things differently than Americans would do and he is so funny doing them. Especially, when he is telling us what happened to him on different jobs we all get a good laugh at his lost in translation conversations with homeowners.
We lovingly call him the "Pink Panther", he is a genius and can fix anything and everyone loves him for his talents and his humor.

Day 6: Laughter Is the Best Medicine

Day 6: Laughter is the Best Medicine: It is proven that people who laugh more and have a positive outlook on life heal faster and get through the tough times better than those who don't.
Fill each day with laughter. Buy a joke book and read a few pages daily. Buy funny movies or rent them or borrow from your library. Watch them after work or after dinner with the family. If you have comedy tapes listen to them while you clean house or cooking.
Go through your scrapbook and remember fun times with friends or family. Keep friends who have a great sense of humor.

Resolve to have great mental health-resolve to have a good laugh everyday!

Day 5: Time Out!  This has really been an area I needed help with the most. It occurs mostly when I go to sleep and all these crazy thoughts of "what if " run through my mind. I say a prayer and it always helps me feel better. I find that I can keep myself busy enough through the day to combat this bad habit.  But, it is especially harder to control when I'm feeling worse from an illness. Then, I call a friend or read the Bible or watch a funny movie. I also find that doing something for others helps me get through those negative times. I try to have a day out with my Mom and Daughter. Just being with them knowing they enjoy me being out with them lifts my spirits and mood to a more positive one.

Day 5-A Time Out

Day 5-A Time Out! Every Mom knows what  a time out means. It's when the kid's are driving you nuts and their behavior is less than perfect you put them in a "time out". It can be any length of time depending on the negative action they were doing.
Well, for reducing stress today we are going to put all our negative thoughts on a "time out."
Stress increases when we let negative thoughts fly through our mind. So we've got to ground them, at least for as long as possible, a "time out."

Create a "safety zone" for a period of time during which you refuse to let negative thoughts appear in the zone. Start small, say 15-20 minutes max. You'll quickly get the hang of it and want to extend the zone for the whole day or even days to weeks to months at a time.

In my family the minute we start to say negative things someone will say "time out" and we know we've stepped out of the "zone" and into the negative area again. This helps us a lot. But, when I'm home alone and negative thoughts start I do it to myself. I say ok, put yourself on a "time out" for 15 minutes. I go to my happy place and meditate on positive thoughts. It could be looking at my garden and seeing all the plants that have grown bigger since yesterday. Or, it could be at the butterflies darting across the yard. I picture myself smelling the flowers with them.

Day 4: Breathe- Well, I'm doing my walking in the house again along with my deep breathing exercise. I find I can last for more than a minute doing it this way. I walk for 10 minutes across the house and into each room. I have enough open floor space to do this and I'm in the a/c. I saw a show about cancer patients in Japan and for therapy they would have them walk outside daily and move their arms slowly up and down and float along and move in a wave pattern instead of a straight line. I find that helps me to relax even more.
